SMHS splits TSSAA Hall of Fame games Saturday

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial basketball teams had a busy day Saturday at Maryville, playing in TSSAA Hall of Fame games at Maryville High School.

The Panthers split a pair of games, beating Maryville 64-55 and losing to Oak Ridge 67-65, while the Lady Panthers beat Oak Ridge 64-59 and losing to Maryville 73-3, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Oak Ridge 67, Panthers 65: Oak Ridge opened the game with a 19-18 first quarter, stretched the lead to 36-34 at the break, before building a 57-49 lead at the end of the third quarter. SMHS outscored Oak Ridge 16-10 in the fourth quarter to make the final score 67-65.

Tyler Yoder and Luke Matthews each buried one three-pointer.

Leading scorers for the Panthers were Gage Spence 5, Mason Baucom 2, Tyler Yoder 22, Brandon Thomas 9, Justin Simmons 13, Luke Matthews 14.

Panthers 64, Maryville 55: Yoder, Simmons and Matthews tallied 23, 25 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Panthers over Maryville. Rounding out the Panthers scoring was Spence 9, Russell 2 and Foster 4.

Stone took a 17-14 first-quarter advantage, but Maryville took a 29-28 halftime lead with a 15-12 second quarter run. SMHS outscored Maryville 36-26 in the second half for the victory to post a 2-1 mark in the Hall of Fame games.

The Panthers had seven three-pointers — Spence 1, Yoder 4, Simmons 1, Matthews 1.

Maryville 73, Lady Panthers 31: Maryville jumped out to a 25-3 first quarter lead and stretched the lead 46-15 at the break. They finished the game with a 27-16 second half for the victory.

Leading scorers for SMHS were Tessa Cokkinias 4, Sam Gray 2, Brittany Brun 2, Jordan Thompson 1, Kirsten Potter 2, Jacki Livesay 11, Lacey Melton 5 and Bailey Rutledge 4.

The scoring information from Oak Ridge game was unavailable.

Schedule:

SMHS traveled to Clarkrange Monday night, and will not return to action until Thanksgiving week. The Lady Panthers will play in the Oak Ridge Tournament Nov. 26, 29-30, while the Panthers will play at  Siegel Nov. 29-30.
