Lady Jets soccer team finishes regular season with a 2-2 tie against Anderson County

The Cumberland County High School Lady Jets soccer team finished the regular season with a 2-2 tie against Anderson County and a 6-0 loss at Cookeville last Thursday to finish the regular season at 7-3-5.

The weather was cold and wet and the field muddy. This did not stop the Lady Jets from coming out and playing hard. CCHS put points on the board first as Kayli Dorsey played a beautiful through ball to Jazmine Dearinger who scored at the far post on the ground beating the keeper.

Both seniors, this was Jazmine's first varsity goal and Kayli's first varsity assist. Anderson came back and scored before the half to tie up the game.

The second half was a more physical battle, as Kendal Yates was carried off the field after a collision.

Glenda Brady was able to get a clean 30-yard shot off with six minutes on the clock to take the CCHS lead. Before the final whistle blew, Anderson attacked and was able to penetrate the 18-yard box with Missy Bargayo injured on the sideline, bringing the score to a 2-2 tie.

Rebecca Kennedy recorded several saves, including a spactacular 1-on-1 save in the second half.

"All the Lady Jet seniors played great soccer. These girls have been the solid foundation of the 2009 season," said Coach Angie Spitler.

Kelly Raulerson, a Lady Jet captain, has had a tremendously successful season recording three goals, double digit saves, and has led the team from the back playing stopper and right defender.

"Kelly's quick cuts on the ball has earned her a distinguished reputation among the opponents. She continually pushes her team to play faster and work harder," said Spitler.

Glenda Brady, a CCHS Lady Jet captain, has been a four-year starter for the team. "She has played both offense and defense. She has recorded almost 30 goals in her four years and has been a key factor in the success of the program," said the Lady Jet coach

"Our other senior captain, Kendal Yates, has played soccer for three years. She was the starting keeper for 2007 and 2008. Due to an early season injury, Kendal has had to sit on the side line and lead her team, but was able to take the field on senior night and play hard," said Spitler.

"Georgena Xammer has shined on defense all season in her first year of high school soccer. Her aggressive style of play and passion has made the team stronger," added Spitler.

"Missy, a three-year defensive starter for the Lady Jets, always makes a huge difference in the back in the sweeper position. Her speed and ability to turn with the ball has frustrated many opponents. Missy's athletic ability saved the team so many times from being scored on," she continued.

Kayli Dorsey has played soccer for CCHS for the past three years.

"Her work ethics on a daily basis earned her a starting position this year. Kayli's positive attitude has brought the team out of many difficult situations," the Lady Jet mentor added.

Jazmine Dearinger has played three years for the Lady Jets.

"She has been transformed by her dedication to the game. Playing outside midfield, Jaz has made a huge contribution to the team," noted the Lady Jet coach.

Cassie Dick has played for the past two-plus years.

"Her physical play has overcompensated for her newness to the game. She has stepped up and filled some open slots on the field to complete the team," Spitler added.

The Lady Jets junior varsity beat Anderson County by a score of 1-0.

Rebecca Kennedy scored the lone goal in the second half of action. Kennedy, the varsity starting keeper, enjoyed the rare time on the field instead of being in the goal. Outstanding defense by Jordan Davis recorded four saves, while Devin Davis played keeper.

Mia Mijatovic, Tiffany Housley, Jausclyn Taulford, and Kelly Hyder played as a unit in the back while Megan Williams and Jordan Davis controlled the center.

Cookeville 6, CCHS 0: The Lady Jets played AAA #2 ranked Cookeville on Oct. 15th recording only the third loss to end the regular season. Cookeville scored quickly on their senior night and the final score was 0-6.

The junior varsity was able to play the second half.

•On Tuesday, Oct. 20, CCHS will host the first game of the Region 3, District 6AAA Tournament at 6 p.m., representing a second-place finish. The Lady Jets will be competing against Coffee County, with a win sending the the team to the regionals and to the championship game.
