Women's Open field half full

The field for the Golf Capital of Tennessee Women's Open on July 21-23 at Bear Trace Cumberland Mountain is half way towards its goal of 120 players, as there are 20 professionals and 46 amateurs entered in the 10th annual tournament.

This is the fifth straight year for the tournament to be played at Bear Trace. July 16 is the entry deadline.

Professionals Shelly Anderson (Clarksville), Rachel Bellefeuille (Tocca, GA), Lori Cate (Maryville), Carole Clark (Arden, NC), Tiffany Faucette (Ormond Beach, FL), Lisa DePaulo (Austin, TX), Stephanie Edwards (Senioa, GA), Jenna Finlinson (Bloomington, IN), Anna Green (Ft. Pierce, FL), Mary Elizabeth Horne (Cordova, TN), Sarah Jacobs (Hendersonville, TN), Collette Jamarowicz (Newwark, NJ), Jennifer Jordan ((Johns Island, SC), Anne Marie Palli (Scottsdale, AZ), Kathlene Robinson (Alexandria, VA), Walailak Satarak (Bellflower, CA), Maggie Steciuk (London, ON), Suzanne Strudwick (Knoxville), Lee Ann Walker-Cooper (Southport, NC) and Kimberly Williams (Sorrento, FL) are among the 66 entrants for the 10th annual tournament and fifth to be played here.

Karen Davies is the defending champion, while DePaulo was the 2007 runner-up and was the LPGA Teacher of the Year. Jacobs and Robinson are former champions.

Several of the professionals are current or former members of the Duramed Futures Tour.

The remaining entrants are amateurs Ashley Averitt, Katherine Bell, Ashley Birdwell, Evelyn Blackmon, Jordan Britt, Katie Brown, Beth Ann Burns, Diana Carson, Haley Cothran, Kennie Leigh Eisenhower, Shayla Forsey, Ashleigh Garman, Katy Beth Glover, Ashley Haggard, Morgan Hale, Mandy Hartsock, Sara Hunt, Rachel A. Ingram, Ryan Kopet, Ashley Lance, Staci Lynch, Angelina Manzitto, Patricia Masick, Alyson Mitchell, Linda Mullins, Emily Muse, Rhonda Nadasi, Brooke Pancake, Alexia Payne, Katie Pursell, Carly Rhyne, Hunter Ross, Brie Rowden, Catherine Smith, Stephanie Smith, Lauren Spurlock, Suzanne Stanley, Kayla Stewart, Jessica Tarbet, Kayla Turner, Lorie Warren, Ashley Wathen, Hannah Weathersby, Leigh Wilkins, Karen Williams, and Ginny Zanca.

Forty-three of the 46 amatuers are from Tennessee, which include upcoming high school juniors and seniors.

Colleges represented include Austin Peay (Averitt, Burns, Lynch, Manzitto and Wathen); Trevecca University (Birdwell); Tennessee Tech (Carson, Rhyne and Brown); ETSU (Eisenhower), Brigham Young (Forsey); Belmont (Garman, Warren, Spurlock), MTSU (Hale, Wilkins), Tusculum (Hartsock); Ole Miss (Lance, Ingram), UAB (Mitchell), Pancake (Alabama), Lipscomb (Rowden), UTC (Stewart), Kennessaw St. (Tarbet); Mississippi State (Stanley and Weathersby); Samford (Hunt) and Bethel (Muse).

Warren won the women's state amateur championship last week at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, TN.

A $7,000 first-place check goes to the winning professional.
