Korths defend TPGA Father and Son Championship

— Paul and Wes Korth of Cookeville defended their TPGA Father-Son championship at the 30th annual tournament played over the weekend at Stonehenge Golf Course.
The two-time champions (2005 and 2008) trailed Brentwood's Ed and Brad Stevens (74 points) and Ed and Jim Stevens (70 points) with 69 points, but posted 81 points on Sunday, which was a single day point total, according to Todd Havron of the TPGA.
The tournament uses a modified Stableford system — one point for bogey, two points for par, four points for birdie and eight points for eagle — in the two day tournament, which was divided into four flights.
Mason and Chris Griffin of Kingston finished second with 144 points, followed by Brad and Jack Campbell of Morristown (141). Ed and Brad Stevens finished at 128, while Ed and Jim Stevens finished with 126 points.
Luke and Bradley Sewell of Athens won the first flight with 124 points, followed by Red Bank's Mike and Nick Kinzer (117) and Tom and Tommy Rowell of Newport (117). Sunday's point total broke the tie.
Luke and Shane Sewell, also of Athens, won the second flight with 108 points, followed by William Scheibe III and Nate Scheibe of Franklin (103) and Will and Ted Chapman of Nashville (100).
Fairfield Glade's Ed and Jeff Dailey finished fourth with 89 points.
Jerry and Brian Rogers of Nashville won the third flight with 70 points, followed by Terry and Scott Thomas of Harrison (66) and John and Brennan Bailey of Nashville (62).
Crossville's Thomas and T.J. Prieur finished with 42 points, while Gary Gasiewski and Matthew Lariscy of Fairfield Glade also posted 42 points.
The finals for the long drive contest were held at Saturday's cookout. In the Tiger Division (back tees), Memphis' Will Garner was the winner with a drive of 292 yards, while Nashville's Ted Chapman won the Nicklaus DivisioN (blue tees) with a blast of 274 yards. The Palmer Division (red tees) was won by Franklin's Scotty Hudson with a drive of 212 yards.
The closest to the hole skill's contest winners were Fred McCord, #3; Will Garner, #5; Blake Roberts, #11; and Nate Scheibe, #14.
