The Stone Memorial Lady Panther softball team's season ended Friday on a sour note, losing 10-0 to Unicoi County in the sectional tournament at Erwin, TN.
"Our bats were cold and theirs were hot. It didn't matter who we pitched or what pitches we called, they hit. Only once this season have we given up this many runs (prom weekend-players missing) and never as many hits," said Coach Ronnie McKinney.
SMHS managed only three hits — a Randi Parsons single in the first, a Samantha Donathan double in the third, and an April Melton single in the fifth.
"We reached most, but not all, of our goals for this season. Our seniors —Samantha Donathan, Jordan Johns, Jalisa Parham and Hannah Rinks — have won district regular season and tournament titles all four years (two at CCHS and two at SMHS)," he added. "It hurts right now, but these girls have a lot to be proud of."
SMHS ends the season with a record of 24-12.
