Stone, CCHS spring games both set for Friday

The Cumberland County High School Jet football team will play its annual Blue and Gold spring game Friday at 2 before the student body at Jet Stadium, after the Jets defeated Livingston 12-6 in a Tuesday scrimmage.

"We played two hours against Livingston, and scored two touchdowns. The offense sustained several offensive series. We ran the spread option out the 'gun and the power I pro set," said Coach Tony Shultz.

Aaron Kirkland scored on a 12-yard run, and Cody Vance raced 20 yards for another score.

"Brad Davis and Travis Dawson had a big game running the football," he added.

They rushed for over 120 yards, while quarterbacks Terryl Bowen and Matthew Pennycuff threw the ball for over 100 yards.

"My defense hit harder since I've been here. We shut down the Livingston option. We ran a 4-3 defense," added Shutlz.

Stone Memorial High School third annual Black & Gold football game has been rescheduled for Friday, May 16 at 6 p.m. due to weather concerns. This is SMHS' big fundraiser, and the goal is to sell 1,000 tickets, according to Rick Brumfield. Tickets are $7 and it includes a burger, chips and drink.
