CHAMPS AGAIN! Stone softball squad takes district title

For the second straight season, the Stone Memorial High Lady Panther softball team is the District 4AA Tournament champion, beating Kingston 7-2 Saturday in the rain-plagued tournament at Anderson County High School, and hosted Seymour Monday night in the first round of the Region 2AA playoffs, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
This was the second game of the championship round, as the Lady Panthers lost to Kingston 3-2 on Friday night.
Kingston 3, SMHS 2: The Lady Jackets scored twice in the third inning on a single
and once in the fifth inning to take the victory over the Lady Panthers.
Lacey McKinney was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs on eight hits.
SMHS scored once in the third inning on a single by Jalisa Parham and a double by Randi Parsons, and once in the fourth inning a double by Brittany Green and a single by Lacey McKinney.
Casey Scarlett and Parsons singled in the fifth, and April Melton singled in the sixth.
McKinney pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on four hits.
SMHS 7, Kingston 2: The Lady Panthers did all of their scoring in two innings — a five-run first and a two-run fourth inning — to take the victory.
McKinney was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on five hits. Parsons ripped two doubles for SMHS (23-10).
In the first inning, Parham singled and scored on a Parsons' double. Hannah Rinks walked and Green singled, plating Parsons. McKinney singles home Rinks, with Green scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kayla McCoy. Samantha Donathan also singled.
The fourth inning runs scored on a walk to Donathan, a Parham single and a double by Parsons, plating Donathan. Parham scored on Rinks squeeze bunt.
In the fifth, McKinney and Donathan both singled, with Parsons smacking a single in the sixth inning.
McKinney hurled another complete game, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
McKinney was the tournament MVP, while Green, Hannah Rinks and Jalisa Parham were selected All-Tournament.
