The Cumberland County High School Lady Jet softball team finished 2-2 in the District 5AAA Tournament to conclude their season with a 19-22 overall record.
"They played well and stepped up big at the end of the season," said Coach Rick Davis Thursday morning. "After a late night Monday and getting home at 1:30-2 p.m., we just ran out of gas (Tuesday)."
CCHS 1, Bradley Central 0: On Monday, the Lady Jets defeated Bradley Central 1-0 in 11 innings on a successful squeeze play to defeat Leah Banks on the international tiebreaker.
Rachel Rich, who was at second base when the 10th inning ended, was replaced with pinch runner Niki Hassler, who moved to third on passed ball and scored on Hayley Melton's squeeze bunt.
Kelly Walker was the winning pitcher, hurling a no-hitter with nine strikeouts, three walks and two hitbatsman.
Rhea County 8, CCHS 4: CCHS lost 8-4 to top seed Rhea County in Monday's final game, which didn't end until the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Walker singled home Melton and Jessica Lancianese with the first two Lady Jet runs. Melton singled, and Jessica Lancianese doubled.
In the sixth inning, both Beth Ann Swafford and Lindsey Thompson reached on errors, followed by RBI singles by Danielle Lancianese and Jessica Lancianese.
Walker gave up eight runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
CCHS 2, Cleveland 1: The Lady Jets took a 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Karissa Dodson walked, was sacrificed to second and scored on Swafford's RBI single.
The winning run came on a walk to Rich and Dodson's RBI double.
Walker was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on one hit with four Ks.
Swafford, Thompson, Melton and Megan Crabtree each cracked one hit.
Bradley Central 5, CCHS 0: Walker allowed five runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
Swafford doubled, while Lacey McCartney and Rich each had a single.
