McMeekin to offer free golf lessons

Local golf professional and instructor Karen McMeekin, along with LPGA and PGA pros across the country, will be offering free lessons again for women, and this year, she is going to offer the same for men.

"Men are not included in the original initiative, but last year, I had such a high request I am starting my own initiative, also," she said.

McMeekin is offering her beginner fun league again this year adding men as well. There will be camps for juniors with a portion of the fee going to a charity.

A night time glow in the dark nine hole league will start.

She is offering discounts in the pro shop at 4 Seasons with the money going to charity as well.

•May is the PGA's free lesson month. Professionals give 10 minute free lessons. Go to www.pga.com for more information. McMeekin is giving them on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 4 Seasons. The lessons are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Donations and/or items like blankets, dog/puppy food, cat/kitten food, cat litter, old bath-size towels, collars, leashes and anything that can be used by Wags and Wiskers Pet and Rescue will be accepted. You will have a chance to win a new putter.

May 6 starts the annual Tuesday Fun League. There will be a 30-minute group lesson and nine holes of fun. The cost is $15 which includes golf and instruction. The league runs for 12 weeks.

For the week of May 5-15, there will be a Mothers Day 15 percent discount off one item from the Procession Golf Pro Shop at 4 Seasons, excluding custom clubs. The 15 percent goes to Wags and Whiskers, as well.

•June is American Express Women In Golf Month. See www.LPGA.com for more information. Free hour lessons for new women golfers will be offered June 2-4 from 8-9 a.m. You must sign up in advance.

Free lessons for new men golfers will be given June 9-11 from 8-9 a.m. You must sign up in advance.

"I had so many requests for free men's lessons I started this offer," she said.

From June 9-15, a Father's Day 15 percent discount off of the purchase of one item at Precision Golf Shop (excluding custom clubs) will be offered, with the money going to Wags and Whiskers, also.

Three junior golf camps will be offered — June 30-July 2, July 7-9 and July 28-30. The cost is $79, with $10 of each fee going to Wags and Wiskers.

Once a month, a night golf glow in the dark golf match will be played at 4 Seasons, with all donations going to Wags 'N Wiskers. The dates are May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19. Bring a flashlight.
