Cumberland County High School's Missy Bargaya and Stone Memorial's Hannah Rinks were recognized by Quiznos of Crossville as their Athletes of the Month for March.
"As for Quiznos, our goal is to recognize the student not only on their athletic skills but the overall person which includes character, work ethic, grades, and overall excellence to name a few. We will have a student/athlete of the month for March, April, and May this academic year and will start in September next academic year," said Joe Carlton of Quiznos.
At the end of the 2008-'09 school year, Quiznos plans to award a student/athlete of the year from the previous award winners a $500 scholarship. An athlete of the year from each high school may be picked.
Bargayo is a sophomore and is a member of the Lady Jet soccer, basketball and track teams. She recently broke the school record in the 100 meters. She is an A honor role student and her mother's name is Lisa Bargayo.
Rinks is a senior at Stone Memorial High School and has played softball for four years, two years at SMHS and two at CCHS. She helped the Lady Panthers qualify for the Class AA state softball tournament in 2007, and was All-District and All-District Tournament.
