Stone's Smith inks hoops scholarship with Roane State

By Ed Greif / sports@crossville-chronicle.com

Stone Memorial High School senior Lindsay Smith signed a basketball scholarship with Roane State Community College for the 2008-'09 school year.

"Lindsay is a great athlete. She has been injured during the summer, but has worked hard and has improved her shooting this fall. She is an excellent shooter with the ability to take the ball to the basket. We expect a great year from Lindsay," said SMHS Coach Tim Smith in his 2007-'08 pre-season outlook.

"Lindsay brings outstanding knowledge of the game to Roane State along with excellent athleticism and ability. She will be an immediate impact and huge asset to the Roane State program. We are excited to have a player of her caliber as well as having an outstanding young lady," said Roane State coach Todd Wright.

The senior helped the Lady Panthers finish 30-5, including a second straight District 4AA regular season title, the District 4AA Tournament chamionship, second place in Region 2AA Tournament, a second straight substate win at Elizabethton and a trip to the Class AA state tournament.

Smith and fellow seniors, Chelsey Brown and Caitlin Sanders, finished their careers with a 116-22 record.

Smith was All-District MVP and All-District Tournament and averaged 11.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game with 86 assists, 127 steals and 21 blocks.

She was hit 149 of 335 shots from the field or 44.5 percent, was 52 of 152 from three-point range or 34.2 percent and 39 of 50 from the free throw line or 78 percent.

As a junior, she was All-District Tournament and All-Region and was All-District 5AAA as a sophomore, while at CCHS.

She finished her career with 1,131 points, 364 rebounds, 315 steals and 263 assists.

Lindsay is the daughter of Rhonda and Tony B. Smith, and has an older sister, Robbie.
