Elementary golf team rolls on to more victories

The Cumberland County elementary golf team won three matches last week, beating Overton County and Pickett County on April 15 at Deer Creek and defeating White County at Sparta Country Club on April 17.

April 15 match

Jonathan Masters shot a 37 to lead the boys to a 169-227 win over both Overton County and a 169-227 victory over Pickett County.

The other scores counting in the team total were Spencer Scarbrough (40), Tayler Houston (44), Jake Dailey (48) and Logan Stewart (48). Four scores were used.

Other scores were Robby Myers (49), Bucky Poe (53), Nick Lee (56) and Dustin Lee (60).

Logan Cass had a 48 for the girls.

April 17 match

Masters was again medalist in Cumberland County's 165-174 win over White County.

"The 165 sets a new low team score at Sparta Country Club. The '05 team had the record with a 167. Logan Stewart had his best round of the season. The '05 team won the region at Tansi. Can the '08 team match them?" said Coach Randy Herring.

Stewart finished with a 40, followed by Daily (42), Houston (44), Myers (45), Scarbrough (47), Chris Cox (53) and Bucky Poe (55). Logan Cass had a 49 for the girls.

Cumberland County (6-1) hosted Macon County Monday afternoon at Lake Tansi, and will take spring break off, before hosting Avery Trace and White County on April 28 at Bear Trace at 3:30 p.m. On May 1, they will host Burks Middle School and Warren County at Lake Tansi at 4 p.m.
