Lunch on the Lawn supports Habitat

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity hosted their sixth annual Lunch on the Lawn event on Sept. 20. Many local businesses and organizations came out to show their support by making homemade dishes to serve the public. Hundreds of people came for lunch, where they experienced a large variety of food ranging from chicken and dumplings to low country boil. Marty Gibson and Terry Ashburn of “The Relics” entertained the energetic crowd while people strolled the courthouse lawn enjoying the music, friends and food.  This event was also a great opportunity for the businesses and organizations in Cumberland County to network and educate the people on what services Crossville has to offer.

“This event is about the community coming together to bring awareness of the affordable housing needs in Cumberland County. Habitat for Humanity wants people to know that there are children and families living in substandard housing in this community, and through our homeownership program we are changing that,” said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Melinda Weigle.

Habitat for Humanity would like to thank the event sponsors for this wonderful event: Habitat for Humanity board of directors Jim Grove, Anne Grove, Jim Stielow, Sandy Stielow, Acme Block & Brick, Cumberland Medical Center, Express Employment Professionals, Good Samaritan Society, Home Instead Senior Care, Hospice of Cumberland County, Life Care Center of Crossville and Tap Publishing.

“It takes a lot of support to make this event possible. We are thankful for all of the businesses and organizations that came out to participate in the event. We also wouldn’t have an event without the people who came to have lunch and join the fun. Habitat for Humanity would like to thank everyone who came to the courthouse lawn to buy a bowl in support of our mission,” said Development Director Vanessa Petty.
