Child Safety Week

CROSSVILLE — Pictured is Ruth Lucas, health educator at the Cumberland County Health Dept. and Certified Child Passenger Seat Technician, assisting a new mom with instructions of proper use and installation of a carseat for her newborn. National Child Safety Week is set for Sept. 15-21, with the Cumberland County Health Department and the Crossville Police Department offering a car seat checkpoint Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Health Department, 1503 S. Main St. Statistics show that four out of five car seats checked are installed incorrectly, with one or more issues being corrected at a checkpoint. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be present to check your car seats and answer questions. In addition to helping ensure your child is riding safely, a drawing will also be held for a $25 gift card and a new car seat, and a prize will be given to every driver coming through the checkpoint to have a car seat inspected. Call 707-2554 for more information, or find a technician or inspection station near you at
