Text messages lead to arrest

Staff writer

CROSSVILLE — A Crossville man was arrested in the parking lot of a local business after a sheriff’s deputy reported receiving text messages advertising illegal drugs for sale, according to an arrest report.

Trevor Nathaniel Long, 20, 58 Grace Dr., is charged with possession of psilocybin (mushrooms) and possession of marijuana following his Aug. 20 arrest, according to Sgt. Jason Elmore’s report.

Elmore wrote that he received text messages from someone stating they wanted to sell the illegal drugs. The sale price was $30 for an eighth bag of mushrooms and $20 for a gram of marijuana. The message said the seller could be located in a corner of a Highland Square parking lot in a Hyundai vehicle.

Officers arrived on the scene around 10 p.m. and found the vehicle. As they approached, a smell of marijuana was detected and a man in the back seat — identified as the suspect — reportedly had a satchel bag around his neck containing the contraband.

The suspect was arrested and $300 seized.

Bond was set at $20,000 and a hearing in Cumberland County General Sessions Court is set for Sept. 16.
