Flu vaccine now available at county health department

CROSSVILLE — Influenza, or flu, season is here, and the Cumberland County Health Department is ready to offer flu vaccine to area residents. A mass flu vaccine clinic will be held at the Cumberland County Community Complex, 1398 Livingston Road in Crossville, on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This clinic is designed to allow people to be able to get in and out quickly. Also drive-thru services will be available at the back of the Community Complex Building. No appointment is needed; vaccine will be provided on a first come, first served basis during the special clinic.

“It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine, so it’s a good idea to get the vaccine as soon as it’s available,” said Karen Roper, county director.  “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine each year, and we urge everyone to take this important preventive step to protect health in our community.”

Flu shots and FluMist® nasal spray vaccine will be provided during the vaccination clinic. There will be a charge of $20 for adults and $13.70 for children. A sliding scale fee is available. The Health Department will bill traditional Medicare and TennCare. Please bring all insurance cards with you.

To ask questions about flu vaccine, call the Cumberland County Health Department/Community Health at 484-6196. The Cumberland County Health Department is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
