Bond hearing for FFG slaying suspect continued

CROSSVILLE — The suspect in the November killing of a Fairfield Glade woman had his motion hearing for a reduced bond continued and he remains in jail at the Cumberland County Justice Center.

John Russell Giles Jr., 61, 109 Hampshire Lane, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kimberly Ann Batty, 52, of Dovenshire Dr. in Fairfield Glade, He was arrested on Dec. 12 after being indicted during a special session of the grand jury.

He was placed under $2 million bond and has remained in jail since his December arrest.

The case was on the Criminal Court docket in March and again last week, but the bond hearing was continued to June 26.

An ambulance and Fairfield Glade Public Safety officers were dispatched to the Batty home after Giles called and reported finding his girlfriend not breathing. Batty's body was found lying on the floor in the living room of her home.

Emergency responders found things odd and Cumberland County Sheriff's Investigators Casey Cox and Jerry Jackson, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation  Special Agent Dan Friel, were called to the scene and launched an investigation into the suspicious death.

The body was taken to Nashville for an autopsy which revealed that Batty suffered mortal wounds due to blunt force trauma to the head, and had also been strangled.
