By Michael R. Moser

CROSSVILLE — A Crossville man wanted on a warrant in Putnam County and a suspect in a van burglary was taken into custody during the dark hours of Sunday morning, according to police reports.

Lucas Daniel Cooper, 24, 2 Hazel Lane, was arrested and transported to the Putnam County line on a warrant out of Cookeville, according to Ptl. Mitchell Phipps' report. The report does not state what the charge is in Cookeville.

Crossville Police were dispatched to Deerfield Rd. around 2:46 a.m. Sunday after a resident who is employed by Hilltoppers reported a man was rummaging through a van owned by her employer.

Police arriving on the scene searched the area and a short time later came into contact with Cooper, who was placed under an investigative hold.

Later, police received a report from a Cross Creek Place resident who reported her unlocked vehicle had been entered and that $162 was missing. A later report the same night came from a Genesis Rd. resident, reporting a vehicle burglary during which $28 and four packs of cigarettes were taken.

Det. J.C. Hancock and Lt. Brian Tilley joined the investigation. It was noted that Cooper provided police with a false identification and he was later released. The mistake was quickly discovered and Cooper was taken back into custody and turned over to Putnam authorities, while Crossville Police continue their investigation.
