Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey Jr. will serve another year as chairman of the Cumberland County Commission after commissioners re-elected him during Monday night's monthly county commission meeting.
Elections on the county commission for officers are held annually in September. County committees also hold annual elections each September.
Carey was nominated to serve as chairman by Dave Hassler, 3rd District commissioner. The nomination was supported by Nancy Hyder, 2nd District commissioner.
He was elected unanimously.
Sonya Rimmer, 8th District commissioner, was elected to serve as chairman pro-tem of the county commission. Rimmer was nominated by Mike Harvel, 7th District commissioner. The nomination was supported by Roy Turner, 7th District.
Carmin Lynch, 9th District commissioner, and Allen Foster, 4th District commissioner, were also nominated. Each received four votes and Rimmer received eight votes.
It takes 10 votes to be elected. Commissioner Hyder changed her vote from Foster to Rimmer and Turner then changed his vote from Lynch to Rimmer, electing Rimmer as chairman pro-tem.
Harry Sabine, 1st District commissioner, was elected unanimously to serve as parliamentarian for the county commission.
Sabine was nominated by Turner and Hyder supported the nomination.
Commissioners Brian Houston, 1st District, and Larry Allen, 6th District, did not attend the meeting.
