Arson suspected in house fire

By Michael R. Moser

CROSSVILLE — A house fire that Crossville and Cumberland County firefighters responded to Nov. 11 has been ruled as an arson fire, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff's Department investigator.

The fire was reported at the Floy Blaylock residence in the 1000 block of Woodlawn Rd. around 11:35 p.m., according to Investigator Scott Griffin's report. No one was injured in the incident.

The fire was reported to E-911 with the caller stating he had heard the sound of glass breaking and then discovered the house on fire. All three persons present escaped.

Firefighters were able to black out the fire reasonably fast once they arrived on the scene. Major damage was reported to the kitchen and living room area. It was also noted that electrical service to the house had been disconnected days prior to the fire.

The following day, investigators discovered that there were many multiple origins of the fire, resulting in the arson ruling. Investigation into the incident is continuing.
