Woman declares public road private

Beats on motorist's truck with fists

By Michael R. Moser

— A Cumberland County woman who declared a public road her private circle and then beat her fists on the hood of a truck when the motorist tried to proceed on the street was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Barbara Jean Fox, 42, 912 Sharon Circle, is charged with second offense driving under the influence and vandalism, according to Deputy Dustin Hensley's report. The arrest took place July 8.

Hensley wrote in his report he was dispatched to the suspect's address on a report of an assault, but met with a victim on Newton Rd. where the man had driven after the incident.

The man — identified as Hershel Sanders — told the officer he and others were driving on Sharon Circle when they spotted a woman standing in the middle of the road, refusing to move. The woman told them to go the other way and when Sanders responded, "No," the woman started hitting the hood of his truck with her fist.

Hensley then made contact with Fox, who told him she did tell motorists to find another way around the "circle" because it was a private road. Fox added that she did tell the motorist to go the other way repeatedly and admitted to beating the victim's truck.

Bond was set at $2,450.
