A Kentucky man has been arrested on a class C felony warrant charging him with arson in what authorities believe stemmed from a domestic situation that went terribly wrong.
Wendell Mike Shelton, 34, 288 Boss Brown Rd., Albany, KY, is charged with arson and was placed under $12,000. An arrest warrant also shows a Buck Ct. address.
According to the arrest affidavit filed by Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Roy Kemmer, deputies responded March 31 to a Buck Ct. address on a report of a domestic situation that only involved an exchange of words during which Shelton is alleged to have tried to take a baby from the child's mother, with whom he had been involved with romantically.
The woman told deputies that during the argument, she took the baby and fled to her father's home, which was next door. She accused Shelton of trying to take the baby, but, was stopped by family members.
After Shelton left, she noticed that her mobile home was on fire. Later, Shelton allegedly called the woman's father, leaving a threatening voice mail.
Shelton was taken into custody in Fentress County and was returned to the Justice Center in Crossville on Saturday where he was booked on the charge and placed under bond. He is to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on May 20.
