County commissioners serving on the budget committee approved a resolution allowing the county to accept a $10,000 donation to go toward the construction of the Gateway to the Big South Fork Visitor's Center.
The budget amendment resolution states, "Private citizens of Cumberland County have donated a total of $10,000 to the government of Cumberland County for use on the construction of the Big South Fork Visitor's Center, and whereas, these contributed monies are without restrictions as to the use of the funds excepting for the stipulation that this donation be refunded in full if the center is not completed and opened for business as planned adjacent to I-40 on River Otter Dr."
The amendment resolution was approved and earmarked for the Big South Fork Visitor's Center project after a motion was made by Jan McNeil, 5th District commissioner. McNeil's motion was supported by Terry Carter, 6th District commissioner and was unanimously approved.
The following budget amendments were also approved during last week's Cumberland County Budget Committee meeting:
• A $5,788 amendment for the Art Circle Public Library for library fees;
• A $1,328 amendment for the Art Circle Public Library to accept grant funds and donations for computer technology;
• A $1,237 amendment for the Cumberland County Animal Shelter to accept donated funds for the operational costs of the shelter;
• A $120 line item amendment for the Veteran's Service Office to transfer funds from office supplies to the communication line to add another phone line in the new office in the courthouse.
All of the amendments must be approved by the full county commission except for the Veteran's Service Office amendment, which was only a line item amendment transferred within that department's budget.
