Task force raid results in arrest, stolen property recovery

CROSSVILLE — A joint investigation by state, district, city and county law enforcement officers April 15 has led to the arrest of one suspect on theft and drug-related charges and questioning of a second suspect.

The incident took place at a residence in the 5200 block of Hwy. 70 N around 7 p.m., according to Investigator Jeff Slayton's report.

Jerry Lee Netherton, 42, 5220 Hwy. 70 N, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, was served an attachment for failure to appear in court and was charged with possession of a motorcycle and handgun that had been reported stolen.

Agents and officers with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force agents, 13th Judicial District Attorney General's Office, Crossville Police Department and Cumberland County Sheriff's Department participated in the raid.

As agents arrived on the scene, they spotted the suspect attempting to leave the residence in a 1985 Chevrolet C30 rollback truck. Inside they found a .45 caliber Colt Commander semi-automatic handgun lying on the seat beside the suspect. A check on the weapon revealed it had been reported stolen.

Inside the residence, officers say they found a 28-year-old Lincolnshire Dr. woman and her infant son. She was detained for a short time and later allowed to leave with her child and a family member. No charges have been placed against her.

When the search warrant was served, officers found marijuana in more than one room, along with drug paraphernalia. In the truck the suspect was found driving, agents found two sandwich bags containing methamphetamine. A motorcycle found in a detached garage was seized after it was learned it had been reported stolen in Hamilton County.

Additional meth and marijuana was discovered in other locations on the property and Netherton was taken into custody and formally charged.

Bond was set at $257,500 and he is to appear in General Sessions Court on Tuesday.
