CROSSVILLE — Cumberland County's audit committee will need a new member after one of the committee members resigned prior to Tuesday's meeting.

Sonya Rimmer, chairman of the committee and 8th District commissioner, said she received notice that committee member Bill Startup had resigned, effective immediately, because he will no longer be a resident of Cumberland County.

"We will need to have a replacement," Rimmer said.

The members of the committee are recommended by Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey Jr. and then voted on by the Cumberland County Commission.

Current audit committee members include Dennis Hinch; Harry Sabine, 1st District commissioner; Jan McNeil, 5th District commissioner; and Rimmer.

Rimmer was going to notify Mayor Carey, who will make a recommendation for a replacement.

The committee reviews county audits from the state and makes recommendations to the full county commission.

The committee is currently reviewing the state audit of the county for fiscal year 2012'-13.
