CCHS tennis teams compete in District tournament


CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County High School tennis teams competed in individual and team competition in the District 6AAA Tournament  last week.


Nithya Kanagasegar was the #1 seed with a bye in the first round. She defeated Elizabeth Oxley of Warren County in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0 and defeated Megan Millard of Rhea County in the semi finals 6-0, 6-0.  She unfortunately lost in the fnals to Ali Harris of SMHS 2-6, 6-2, 5-7.

Camie Threet played Andrea Ramirez of Cookeville High School and lost 3-6, 4-6 in round one.

Tyler Boniol played Jarrett Deason of SMHS in round one and lost 0-6,1-6.

Josuha Whittenberger played Stephen Tung of SMHS in round one and lost 0-6, 0-6.


Madison McLaughlin and Madison Hicks played Abi Wightman and Tori Harris of SMHS in round one. McLaughlin/Hicks took the lead early in the first set 4-1, but ended up losing 4-6, 1-6.

Samantha Godsey and Morgan Houston played Savannah Brown and Julie LeBarge of SMHS and won 6-3, 6-3. They then faced the No. 2 seed in the tournament Katie Phillips and Lauren Hennessee in the quarterfinals and lost 0-6, 0-6.

Seniors Henry Gilbert and Austin Brown played Mitchell Lamb and Haden Welch from White County in the first round and lost 1-6, 4-6.

Reid and Robby Guthrie played Landon Hancock and Tristan Foster and lost in three exciting sets 2-6, 6-4, 2-6.
