A Cumberland County man has been arrested following a Crossville Police Department investigation into the theft and forgery of checks, according to arrest affidavits filed last week.
Timothy Dean Barnes, 24, 1039 Brown Creek Rd., is charged with theft of less than $10,000 and forgery, both felonies. He was placed under $30,000 bond and is to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on May 30.
According to the warrrant affidavit filed by Det. Bill Padgett, an investigation was launched late last month into the theft of of checks stolen from a family member that resulted in seven checks being forged.
The checks were then presented to Premiere Check Cashing where they were cashed, with loss placed at more than $5,000.
Barnes was taken into custody at a Creston Rd. location Saturday by Deputy Dustin Hensley.
