Don Gibson tribute CD released

By Michael R. Moser

CROSSVILLE — Fans of country music singer and Crossville native Mandy Barnett will be happy to learn she has been very busy, just off a concert visit to Japan, the release of her latest CD and her upcoming Patsy Cline celebration concert with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
She will be joining the Nashville Symphony next week for a tribute to the country music legend whose portrayal won Mandy national acclaim. Mandy portrayed the singer in multiple sold-out runs at the Ryman Auditorium of Love Always ... Patsy Cline.
Concerts are slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-16, at 8 p.m. at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. Ticket information can be obtained from the NSO website at
She will be performing "Crazy," "I fall to Pieces," and "Walkin' After Midnight" among other selections. The orchestra will open the evening with two classics: Gershwin's Rhaposody in Blue and Enesco's Romanian.
Mandy performed at venues in Japan last month and stated she thoroughly enjoyed the time visiting with her fans in that country.
The trip comes on the heals of the release of a tribute to legendary singer/songwriter Don Gibson which is available exclusively in Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores.
"Don, his wife Bobbi, and I became good friends a few years before he passed away," Mandy said in a public relations release. "He asked me to consider recording an album of his songs, and of course, I said yes. He wrote some of the most-loved songs in country music — who wouldn't want to record a Don Gibson song?"
Gibson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001, was a very popular and highly influential country music singer/songwriter in the 1950s and 1960s.
He claimed more than 20 Top 10 hits and released nearly 40 albums and was a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
The CD features 12 Gibson songs with Allison Krauss performing with Mandy on "Blue Blue Day."
"It may have taken more than a decade, but thanks to Cracker Barrel Old County Store, I have fulfilled my promise to Don and I could not be more excited," Mandy said.
The tribute CD is available in Cracker Barrel stores.
Since leaving Crossville to pursue her love of country music and desire to be a top artist, Mandy has been featured in several movie soundtracks, including "Space Cowboys," "Drop Dead Gorgeous," and "A Walk On the Moon," and sang on the SpongeBob SquarePants album "The Best Day Ever."
Mandy's 2010 release of the Christmas album "Winter Wonderland" earned grand reviews and instantly because a best seller in Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores across the country.
