County defers action on Towne Centre Dr.

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County Commission deferred taking any action on a resolution adding a road to the county's road list pending further information about the road description.

Resolution 10-2013-5 — a resolution adding Towne Centre Dr. to the Cumberland County Road list was deferred until the November county commission meeting because several commissioners had questions regarding the description of the road and the length of the road.

Towne Centre Dr. is in the Fairfield Glade area and is the road that runs from Peavine Rd. west to the backside of the Food City grocery store.

"There's no distance. A lot of people who go to the church out there think Towne Centre Dr. goes out to the church," 9th District commissioner, Carmin Lynch said.

"No, that's Towne Centre Way once it goes around the curve," said 3rd District Commissioner, Dave Hassler.

Hassler serves on the Cumberland County Planning Commission, which approved adding the road to the road list, as well as the environmental committee.

"I have to agree with Carmin. It needs a description. There is no length mentioned," said Harry Sabine, 1st District commissioner.

"We just spent about 30 minutes discussing this (private) property (off Willard Brown Rd.) and the description," Lynch said.

Sonya Rimmer, 8th District commissioner, agreed, saying she thought the distance needed to be included in the description.

Jeff Brown, 8th District, said it had passed both the planning commission and environmental committee. The road was also core tested and met county road specs, according to County Road Superintendent Scott Blaylock.

Sabine moved to defer the resolution and take no action until the November county commission meeting.

Nancy Hyder, 2nd District commissioner, supported the motion and it was approved in a 16-1 vote.

Brown voted no.
