The county commission approved budget amendments to the general fund Monday night for the parks and fair boards and clerk and master departments during the October monthly meeting.
Resolution 10-2013-1 — a budget amendment to allow for costs for the Recreational Trails Program, which awarded a $40,000 grant for trail enhancements at Obed River Park — was unanimously approved.
The grant requires a $10,000 match that will be met through an in-kind match by the county in the form of labor. The county is required to make all the purchases for the improvements and then submit those to the state for reimbursement of the funds, according to the grant.
It was approved after a motion was made by Nancy Hyder, 2nd District commissioner. Hyder's motion was supported by Roy Turner, 7th District.
Also approved unanimously was resolution 10-2013-2 — a budget amendment for $12,000 to be used to purchase data processing equipment for the Cumberland County Clerk and Master’s office.
It was approved after a motion was made by Sonya Rimmer, 8th District. Rimmer's motion was supported by Mike Harvel, 7th District.
The county commission also approved a resolution accepting an offer for the sale of delinquent tax property located off Ozone Rd.
Resolution 10-2013-4 — accepting an offer of $172 from William and Patricia Johnson to purchase the property, was approved after a motion was made by Hyder. Hyder's motion was supported by Charles Seiber, 4th District.
Hyder explained the property previously belonged to the Johnsons, who thought their son was paying the property taxes. The taxes, which were $7 per year for a few years and then $8 for several years, had not been paid since 2003.
Hyder explained the total owed on the property was $323, which included legal costs and attorney's fees.
It was approved in a 15-2 vote. Commissioners Harvel and Carmin Lynch, 9th District, voted no.
Jan McNeil, 5th District, did not attend the meeting.
The offer was also approved and recommended in a Delinquent Tax Committee meeting prior to the county commission meeting.
