Traffic stop leads to theft charge

CROSSVILLE — A Crossville man driving in the Lake Tansi Village area was arrested and charged with auto theft after he was stopped by a Lake Tansi Public Service officer, according to arrest reports.

Stephen Walter Sherrill, 24, no address available, is facing the single count of theft of property after being taken into custody Oct. 11.

Sherrill is accused of driving a Toyota Camary in the area of the 19th Hole and Cravens Dr. when Lake Tansi Officer Steve Hritz conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it has been reported stolen to Crossville Police on the same day as the traffic stop.

Sherrill was jailed and placed under $4,000 bond with a Nov. 4 court date set. The vehicle was towed and turned over to Crossville Police.
