By Michael R. Moser

CROSSVILLE — One suspect possessing burglary tools was nabbed but another one escaped on foot and the getaway driver fled the scene following an incident last Thursday in the area of Dillon St. off Hwy. 70 W, just outside the city limits.

Ethan Henry Swafford, 34, Rt. 1, Box 248, Pikeville, was arrested and charged with possession of burglary tools and unlawful possession of burglary tools, according to Sgt. Rick Lanzilotta's report. Deputies have identified a second man who fled on foot, as well as the man who fled driving a grey Dodge pickup truck.

Deputies were dispatched to Dillon St. and the area of The Gardens on a report of a possible burglary in progress after a witness reported seeing two men dressed in all black being let out of a Dodge pickup.

Deputies were able to track the suspects as they ran through yards because of snow and muddy conditions. The two men on foot were spotted on a road in The Gardens, but when Lanzilotta and Deputy Ryan Ashburn attempted to stop the two, both started running.

The deputies announced themselves as officers, causing one of the men to surrender. The other got away.

The man taken into custody reportedly had a  green bag that contained a crow bar, flashlight, hammer, black gloves and combat knife with seven-inch blade.

Chief Investigator Casey Cox was notified of the arrest and reportedly was given statements during the investigation.

A search for the two other men implicated in the incident is ongoing.
