Opening planned for Health Dept.

CROSSVILLE — The new Cumberland County Health Department should be open by Tuesday, Jan. 22, according to Kim Chamberlin, architect with Upland Design Group.

Chamberlin attended the county’s building and grounds committee meeting earlier this week and gave a final report on the progress of construction on the facility.

Chamberlin told the committee that everything was complete and, “They are moving in as we speak.”

Chamberlin told the committee that the certificate of occupancy was issued last week and the staff began moving things in earlier this week.

“Jan. 4 is when your warranty period begins on the building,” Chamberlin said.

Chamberlin also reported that the sign company that installed the sign would be adding a larger base to the sign in the near future at no extra cost.

The new health department project was funded by a $4.5 million federal grant and the county’s investment is approximately $1 million.

The funds were made available to the county through The Affordable Care Act Capital Development Grant, which the county applied for in 2009.

The facility is an environmentally sustainable facility built according to the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification requirements. The new building is approximately 30,000 square feet and is at 1503 S. Main St. on Hwy. 127 S. just north of the Physician’s Associates facility.

The new health department will have the facilities to house up to three dentists. The facility was constructed by W&O Construction of Livingston, TN.
