Two women who admitted to setting fire to a restroom at a city park earlier in the month have been charged, following a joint investigation by the Crossville Police and Fire departments.
Catherine D. Pollock, 20, 5756 Hwy. 70 N, and Chelsey Sheanna Bottoms, 19, 235 Foothills Rd., Pikeville, are each charged with one count of vandalism of less than $500 in connection with the Dec. 14 incident.
On that day, Crossville Fire Department responded to a fire at Centennial Park off Industrial Blvd., and found that someone had set toilet paper and paper towels on fire. Fire Lt. Harold Thompson, who was working at Station 2, located directly across the street from the park, observed two woman running from the scene.
The two were picked up and interviewed, and both provided statements to Fire Marshal Capt. Rich Myers.
Myers wrote that it was his opinion that since damage was minimal and the two suspects expressed remorse, that the vandalism charge be filed instead of an arson charge. The city is looking to recoup $400 in restitution when the case goes to court.
