The council will take up the final rate increase of water and sewer rates in a series required by the state revolving loan fund to pay for several large water and sewer projects financed through the program. The total 20-percent rate increase was phased in at 5 percent per year over four years.
The called meeting’s agenda also includes a budget amendment for the Myrtle Ave. sidewalk project. The total cost of the project is estimated at $250,000 with $125,000 from a grant and same amount from the city’s fund balance.
The matter of the city’s fireworks display for the July Fourth celebration will also come up on the agenda. Bids on the fireworks displays will be opened prior to the meeting and, based on funding donated with matching funds from the city, a recommendation will be made to the council on the fireworks program and council is expected to approve a bid on the fireworks display.
Councilman Pete Souza has requested a discussion of the possible benefits of hiring a full-time city attorney be on the agenda. Based on the amount of legal work now required for the city, Souza has previously mentioned he felt that it could be more economical to hire a full time attorney rather than hire one under contract as is currently done.
Two annexations are also up for action by the council. One annexation involves Satsuma Dr. and would be the third and final reading. The council will also take up the plan of services for Satsuma Dr. as part of the annexation. In addition, the council is expected to take action on the abutment project for Satsuma Dr. improvements.
Annexation of property on Lantana Rd. will also be considered. The annexation has been requested by the owners of the property for access to city sewer and plans are to construct a home on the lot.
