The Crossville Thunder sixth-grade girls beat the Maryland Mavericks to take home first place in the 2013 AYBA National Championship, held last week in Charlotte, NC.
The girls competed against competition from Washington, D.C. and two teams from Maryland. The girls end their travel basketball season 25-7, after competing against top ranked state and national teams.
The Thunder sixth-grade girls are coached by Jon Walker and Neil Capps. The players are Emily Boyd, Emma Capps, Brylie Christopher, Katie Coudriet, Skylar Lewis, Paige Selby, Alli Smith and Reece Stover.
The girls also earned many individual honors including team shooting — first, Boyd, Christopher, Lewis, Selby and Stover; the three-point contest — first, Christopher; second, Capps; free throw shooting — first, Capps; second, Coudriet; and the hotshot competition — first, Smith; second, Stover.
The girls also had three named to the All Tournament team, with Reece Stover and Katie Coudriet taking home honors. Emily Boyd was named tournament MVP.
The girls, coaches and parents want to thank the many individuials and businesses who made this event possible. They would like to thank the Crossville Thunder organization for giving them a place to both play and learn the game of basketball.
