Pedestrian killed in Westel traffic crash

CROSSVILLE — One person was killed and another injured when a motorist struck a pedestrian and a pickup that was parked on the side of a state highway in Cumberland County Friday morning.

Pronounced dead shortly after arrival to Cumberland Medical Center was David E. Godsey, 52, who had a rural Rockwood address. Injured was Tina R. Honeycutt, 38, who also has a rural Rockwood address, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. All are believed to have lived in the Rockwood area of Cumberland County.

The crash occurred Friday around 7:46 a.m. on Hwy. 70 E near the Westel volunteer fire station. The crash was investigated by Trooper Jeremy Newcome.

According to a THP spokesperson, Eric S. Honeycutt, 39, was driving his 1995 Chevrolet GMC pickup east when his vehicle struck Godsey and then struck a 1991 Nissan pickup that was stopped on the side of the road.

The victim ended up beneath one of the vehicles. Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services ambulance and the Cumberland County Fire Department responded to the call, and an ambulance helicopter was placed on standby. Godsey reportedly went into trauma cardiac arrest and emergency personnel performed life-saving measures while en route to CMC.

Tina Honeycutt, a passenger in the Chevrolet pickup, was injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Eric Honeycutt and Millard W. Kindred, 57, a second pedestrian who was not struck, were not injured.
