CROSSVILLE —

The Cumberland County Finance Committee approved a low bid for vinyl tile flooring in several elementary schools.

The committee approved a low bid of $39,884.08 that was submitted by Crossville Flooring after a motion was made by Scott Blaylock, Cumberland County road superintendent.

Blaylock's motion was supported by Mike Harvel, 7th District commissioner.

The vinyl flooring is for classrooms at Pleasant Hill, Martin, Crab Orchard and Pineview elementary schools.

Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle said the majority of the installment of the flooring should be done during the Christmas break.

"We're hoping they can get to it all, but if not, they should get most of it installed," VanWinkle said.

The second bid submitted for the project was $52,007.45 by Crossville Wholesale Carpet.

Cumberland County Finance Director Nathan Brock said bid openings for the mortar tuck-pointing and coping/flashing and waterproofing alternate at the old high school portion of the Justice Center should be opened on Dec. 18.

"We had a great turnout at the pre-bid conference for bids on the Big South Fork Visitor's Center. It was well attended so we hope that's a favorable sign for the county," Brock also reported.

Harvel said, "That's good, but now about that waterproofing at the Justice Center. The county had a specialist come out and look at that building. They said do not spray waterproofing on that building because that stone needs to breathe. So I will not support or vote for doing that."

Carmin Lynch, 9th District commissioner, said, "That's Cope (Associates) and we've got an opinion from them not to do the water proofing and an opinion from Chamberlin (Upland Design) to go with the waterproofing."

The building and grounds committee voted to have the waterproofing bid as an alternate so the cost figure is there if the county decides to have the waterproofing performed.

No other business was discussed at the meeting.
