The Cumberland County Commission authorized Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey Jr. to negotiate the specific details and to prepare the legal documents to sell the old Snodgrass building and three parcels of property to the city of Crossville.The sale price for the property will be at 50 percent of the county tax records appraised value with a commitment to improve the properties and the usability of the Spirit Broadband Amphitheater.
Harry Sabine, 1st District commissioner, asked if the property site had been addressed since a small portion of the Spirit Broadband Amphitheater is located on property owned by Cumberland County Attorney Randal Boston.
"The city needs to be aware of that and take care of it," Sabine said.
Crossville Mayor J.H. Graham III said the city was aware of the situation and it had been discussed and agreed that it would be taken care of and attorney Boston would sign over that portion of property.
The Snodgrass building is the small green building behind the courthouse that used to house the Veterans Service Office. The building has become dilapidated and in need of repairs.
Mayor Graham told the building and grounds committee earlier this month the city is hosting and sponsoring several events in the downtown Crossville area and the need of restrooms is vital for the public who are participating in the events.
The city is planning to invest the money into the building for restrooms for events at the Amphitheater and in the nearby downtown area.
The property appraised at $103,000.
Carmin Lynch, 9th District commissioner, made a motion to approve resolution 06-2013-15 — the sale of the Snodgrass building to the city of Crossville and accept the offer of half the appraised value.
Johnny Presley, 3rd District commissioner, supported the motion. It was approved in a 14-2 vote. Sabine and Roy Turner, 7th District commissioner, voted no.
In other areas, the county approved the sale of a delinquent tax property owned by the county to D. Christopher and Deborah J. Mauch.
Resolution 06-2013-13 — the sale of delinquent tax property at 516 Snead Dr. in Fairfield Glade for $100, was approved in a 13-3 vote after a motion to approve the sale was made by Nancy Hyder, 2nd District commissioner and was supported by John Kinnunen, 9th District commissioner.
Commissioners Terry Carter, 6th District, and Mike Harvel and Roy Turner, 7th District, voted no.
Charles Seiber, 4th District commissioner and Jeff Brown, 8th District commissioner, did not attend the meeting.
