Indiana escapee nabbed in Lake Tansi

By Michael R. Moser

CROSSVILLE — A Lake Tansi resident wanted by Indiana authorities was taken into custody after a short flight on foot and scuffle with deputies trying to take him into custody, according to reports.

Jeffery Alan Vibbert, 31, 1027 Sitting Bull Ct., was taken into custody June 10 on a fugitive warrant pending his extradition back to the Hoosier state to face charges of felony escape, burglary and theft. He also faces new charges of assault on an officer, resisting arrest and evading arrest, according to Deputy David Patterson's report.

The escape charge against Vibbert was filed in Carroll County, IN, in late May.

Patterson and Deputy Tollett received information that a person wanted by Indiana authorities in Delphi, IN, was at a residence off Sitting Bull Ct., and made contact with Vibbert. As Patterson attempted to take Vibbert into custody, he broke free and ran from the officer. After a short foot pursuit and scuffle during which Patterson wrote that he was kicked and bitten by Vibbert's pit bulldog, Vibbert was placed under arrest.

Vibbert declined medical attention at the emergency room and was jailed at the Justice Center. Patterson was attended to by ambulance personnel and continued with his shift.
