Resident thrashes man found in home

Second suspect flees from scene

CROSSVILLE — A Crossville man found attempting to hide in a bedroom closet after a resident returned home and interrupted a burglary in progress got beat about the head and shoulders before police arrived on the scene to take the suspect into custody. A second man fled from the scene.

Jimmy Lynn Barnwell, 43, 36 Willow St., is charged with aggravated burglary, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a schedule IV drug, according to Sgt. Chad Withrow's report. A 31-year-old Braun Cove man is being sought by police.

The incident took place Friday around 8:18 p.m. at a Braun Cove residence. Police were dispatched on a report of a burglary in progress and were met by a man and woman who live at the residence. Also present was Barnwell who "appeared to have been in a fight," Withrow wrote.

The couple arrived home and tried to enter through a front door only to find a chair propped against the door knob, preventing entry. The male resident walked to the rear of the home while telling the female to call police. The man found the rear door to his home open.

The victim told police he went inside and heard someone in a rear bedroom and when he went to investigate, he found a man trying to hide in the closet.

Police recovered from the suspect the victim's credit card, charger and jewelry that were returned to the owners. Still missing are a camera lens and clothing. Police are to be notified if anything else is found to be missing.
