Assault charged in connection with crash

Two hurt in subdivision wreck

CROSSVILLE — Two Cumberland County men suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle car crash Sunday morning that occurred on a city street in a subdivision off Hwy. 70 E.

Injured were Jonathan Adam Fleenor, 27, 311 Oak Hill Dr., driver of a 1994 Mazda MX3; and his passenger, Theodore C. Hafner, 35, 165 Obed St. According to Sgt. Chris Kendrick's report, Hafner was wearing a seat belt, while Fleenor was not.

The crash occurred minutes before 2 a.m. on Ridgeway, about 100 feet off Village Way, the main road leading into Greenbrier subdivision from Hwy. 70 E.

Kendrick's report states that Fleenor was driving north on Ridgeway, toward Village Way, when he crossed left of the center line and ran off the road in a curve, crashing head-on into a large tree.

Crossville Fire Department was dispatched to the scene when it was first reported that victims were trapped inside the wreckage. They assisted in freeing the victims and assisted Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services personnel with stabilizing the two men prior to transport to the Cumberland Medical Center's emergency room.

Both men were transported to The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Because of privacy laws, their conditions were not released.

Fleenor has been charged with vehicular assault and driving under the influence but not served with the warrants at press time, according to Kendrick's traffic accident report.
