A suspect in the mid-morning robbery Monday of a Crossville pharmacy has been identified by Crossville Police as Thomas Samuel Copeland, 56, of 1532 Copeland Rd., Sparta.
Copeland is charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, simple possession and evading arrest. Bond was set at $60,000 and he is to make his first appearance in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on Oct. 1.
According to Maj. Mark Rosser, Copeland is accused of holding up The Medicine Shoppe pharmacy located in Woodmere Mall off N. Main St. around 10:40 a.m. He reportedly walked into the pharmacy, placed a gun on the counter, and demanded oxycodone, a controlled II substance.
Copeland was given 14 bottles of the pain-killer and then fled in a blue Buick LaSabre. Police responded quickly to the scene and witnesses pointed to the fleeing suspect. A pursuit followed down Miller Ave. to the Milo Lemert Parkway where it came to an end without incident.
Police recovered the stolen drugs and a .9 milimeter handgun from the vehicle.
Employees were shaken but otherwise unhurt in the incident.
