Crossville Police are investigating a report of a rape of a woman who was picked up at a local nightspot by a man with whom she had a few drinks with and then accepted a ride home.
The 40-year-old woman — a resident of a subdivision off Lantana Rd. outside the city limits — showed up at Cumberland Medical Center last Wednesday morning around 1 a.m., seeking treatment for her sexual assault, according to Ptl. Brian Eckelson's report. She told investigators the assault took place around 10:30 p.m. on last Tuesday.
CMC officials treated the woman and notified police. Joining Eckelson at the hospital was Det. Bill Padgett.
According to the report, the woman was at a nightspot on Hwy. 70 E and had consumed a couple of drinks with a man not known to her. A short time later the victim stated she started to feel intoxicated, believing the man had placed a drug in her drinks.
The man offered to give the victim a ride home and she accepted, leaving in a Toyota Camery that may have been tan in color.
At some point along the way, the man stopped the vehicle and sexually assaulted the woman. The victim did not know where the assault occurred. After the assault, the man drove the woman to her home and left.
Investigation into the incident is continuing.
