Man pleads to breaking into family member's home

CROSSVILLE — A Crossville man accused of breaking into a family member's home and with the theft of property from another residence has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and, as part of the plea, is to pay restitution to the victims.

Seth Louis Sherrill, 25, 335 Davidson Lane, was arrested Aug. 12 on charges of aggravated burglary, theft of less than $1,000 and theft of property.

He was scheduled to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on Sept. 9, but instead, appeared a week after his arrest and entered a plea agreement to settle all the cases pending against him.

Sherrill was charged with breaking into the Premier Dr. home of his aunt on June 11, during which time the aunt claimed items valued at $950 was stolen. He was also accused of breaking into a Maple St. residence and stealing a television, according to affidavits filed by Det. Danny Harris.

Both victims told investigators they wanted restitution for the items stolen from them.

On Aug. 20, Sherrill pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal trespass — reduced from the felony burglary charge — and was ordered to pay $125 litigation tax and $24.40 restitution to a local pawn shop. He was also placed on probation for 11 months and 29 days.

He pleaded guilty to theft and was ordered to pay $500 restitution to his aunt. Sherrill pleaded guilty to theft in the Maple St. burglary and was ordered to pay $528 restitution to the Brookhaven subdivision resident.
