Near collision reported during pursuit

CROSSVILLE — A woman motorist being stopped for not having a working headlight took off instead of pulling over when a deputy attempted a traffic stop, leading officers on a pursuit that included a near head-on collision with a city patrol car, according to police reports.

Lesley Dunaway, 28, 11 Crestview Lane, is charged with driving under the influence, felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, by Deputy Ryan Ashburn.

The incident took place Sunday night around 8:45 p.m. when Ashburn observed a vehicle traveling on Hwy. 127 N. He attempted to stop the vehicle but was unsuccessful in getting the motorist to pull off the road and stop.

The motorist accelerated the speed of her car and fled at a high rate of speed, with other deputies and city police officers joining in the chase. The fleeing motorist turned onto Industrial Dr. where a near head-on crash was reported.

The pursuit continued through the Kubota dealership parking lot and north onto Genesis Rd. before turning onto Cook Rd. The chase ended on Beehive Dr. when the motorist reportedly drove through a yard and finally stopped behind a residence.

Dunaway was reportedly Tasered and taken into custody. After being booked at the Justice Center, the suspect was taken to Cumberland Medical Center's emergency room because of what the officer described as erratic behavior.

Bond was set at $24,500 and an appearance set in General Sessions Court.
