Woman accused in vehicle assault apprehended

CROSSVILLE — A Fentress County woman, who has been sought by Cumberland County authorities since October following an assault by vehicle incident in the Westel community, was apprehended last week in Fentress County and has been transferred to the Justice Center.

Katherine Renee Fickey, also known as Clark, age 23, of 2109 Clarkrange Monterey Hwy. (Hwy. 62), Clarkrange, was formally charged with five counts of reckless endangerment, felony aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

Fickey was also served with a probation violation warrant that had been issued by Criminal Court Judge David Patterson last November with a note to hold her without bond pending bond hearing. She was on probation as a result of a four-year sentence that had been suspended after she pleaded guilty to burglary.

Arrest affidavits report that in October 2012 in the parking lot of the Rocky Top Market off I-40 at the Westel exit, Fickey was in driver of a vehicle that rear-ended a vehicle driven by Dennis Fickey, her estranged husband at the time. When Dennis Fickey exited his vehicle to enter the store, Katherine Fickey allegedly attempted to run her estranged husband over.

Another affidavit claims that when Katherine Fickey attempted to run down her estranged husband, she struck his car in the side, nearly pushing it into the store and narrowly missing four people who were sitting in a nearby parked Jeep.

Fickey then fled from the scene, according to the affidavit.

It is not the first time Fickey has been accused of using a vehicle as a weapon. In September 2009 Fickey was arrested and charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.

In that incident, Fickey was accused of being involved in a fight in Windridge Estates off Creston Rd. with a local woman that escalated into Fickey driving her vehicle into the rear of the other woman's vehicle. Inside that vehicle were four small children, according to reports.

Fickey was being held without bond pending an appearance before the court on the probation violation. She was placed under $3,500 bond in connection with the vehicular assault incident and is to appear in General Sessions Court on April 29.
