Drug take back set Thursday

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and the Cumberland Medical Center Wellness Complex at Crossville are cooperating on a “Drug Take Back” program scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15.

To drop off out-of-date prescriptions, unneeded over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and other pharmaceutical products, simply drive up in front of the Wellness Complex at 130 Woodmere Mall and hand items to Chief Investigator Casey Cox of the Sheriff’s Department. He will see to proper disposal.

The event is from 6 to 8 a.m. and again from 2 to 4 p.m.

All pharmaceuticals will be incinerated. CMC will take syringes and items for sterile disposal. All plastic containers will be recycled.

Cox said Tennessee ranks second for abuse of prescription drugs.

He added, “Getting unnecessary pills and miscellaneous unused medical products out of homes helps discourage drug-addicted individuals from adding burglary and theft to their bad habits.”
