Clayton Supply buys Crossville window manufacturing facility

Move expected to add 20 jobs by 2014

CROSSVILLE — The Crossville location of Elixir Industries, a manufacturer of vinyl windows, has been purchased by Clayton Supply, part of Maryville-based Clayton Homes.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reports the deal between Elixir and the manufactured housing company was finalized May 31 and the facility has been renamed Clayton Windows.

The newspaper quotes a press release that states there are currently 51 employees at the facility with a current production capacity of 450 windows per day. That will be expanded to 1,000 windows a day through the addition of a second line and about 20 jobs are expected to be added by 2014.

Colt Davis, Clayton Supply’s director of operations, said in the release, “The location of the Crossville plant is expected to supply windows for most of Clayton Homes’ home building facilities.”

Clayton Supply was founded in 2010 and provides materials to 35 manufacturing facilities, including laminated wall boards, cabinetry and molding packages. The company also operates three distribution centers for lumber and other products and an Alabama plant that refurbishes homes for Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance and 21st Mortgage. The parent company, Clayton Homes, is part of Berkshire Hathaway and posted $71 million in first quarter earnings in 2013, up 78 percent from the first quarter of 2012.
