A friendly rivalry for charity

December 22, 2008 05:11 pm

Members of the Crossville and Cumberland County fire departments once again challenged each other in a friendly competition that benefited the local chapter of the Salvation Army. Friday, members of both departments manned the doors at Wal-Mart, ringing bells and collecting donations that the Salvation Army will use locally in times of disaster and to send qualifying youngsters to summer camp. Winner of the ring-off will be announced once the proceeds are counted. Last year, the county volunteers edged out the city crew in collecting the most donations.
